Hi all,
There is a book regarding BIOS disassembly (reverse engineering) subject right now. You may want to check it out:

Perhaps this book will enlighten you in the detail of BIOS reverse engineering. I don't mean to advertise it here. It's just to help out those who wants to know about it in detail. It may be pretty tough to understand for those not proficient enough in assembly language.

PS: There should be a Russian version of the book. I'll ask Natalia Tarkova (my chief editor) about it because it's mentioned in the book writing contract. I think the people at BHV Publishing (www.bhv.ru) currently working on it if it's not yet done.

Вы о контенте или о переводе? Если оставить контент в стороне, то книга написана не по-русски. Так не говорят и не пишут.

О "вообще". Да, явно видны уши перевода (англоязычное построение фраз и попытки дословного перевода), но для технической литературы считаю это приемлемым.
The one who did the translation was Olga Kokoreva (IIRC). From my experience working with her, I know that she's quite knowledgeable. Nonetheless, comparing to articles here at rom.by or ixbt.com, it is much easier to understand those articles than the sample chapter of the book ;). Even though my Russian is so bad, even I could tell the difference ;)

Anyway, looking at the page count, it seems that the Russian version is a bit more elaborate (maybe closer to my original manuscript) than the English version because quite a lot of things has been moved to the CD-ROM in the English version due to sheer page count.

Право, как-то неудобно объясняться мне, что я аксиому phun=fun понял сразу и навеки-веков. И даже не подозрвая, что в дальнейшем получу от Вас ссылку на babelfish, специально именно этим самим Бабель Фишем перевел фразу "Русский перевод ужасен!" на английский, что бы, так сказать, выразить иронию по поводу перевода книги.
Как ни улыбаться, а сложно назвать переводом одновременную работу babelfish и программы Сократ. Последняя, кстати, вернула с английского следующий перл "Русский перевод - страшн!" Ни добавить, ни убавить. Именно так!
Olga Kokoreva , читал, занудно, бездарно, пишет много, но практических знаний не получаешь. В общем типичный образчик советского стиля написания научно-технической литературы.

Не отказался бы от английского текста, на халяву конечно :mrgreen:
